I bet you didn't do any research before offering Narconon nuggets to your readership. If you had gone online and done a search, you would have found this site: http://www.narconon-exposed.org
Unlike Narconon's own site, which is rife with inaccuracies, vague testimonials and unsupported statistics, Narconon Exposed is a rich source of verifiable information and solid research.
Narconon is a front group for the Scientology organization, and is used to funnel money and new members into the group. Moreover, Narconon is being used by Scientology to gain access to faith-based funding. Perhaps you should research Scientology as well: http://www.xenu.net
I am not surprised that your paper fell for the slick Narconon PR. Many people confuse NarcOnon with Nar-anon, a legitimate 12 step support group for friends and family of addicts. Additionally, most people wouldn't expect lies from a rehab outfit, or a church for that matter, so they just don't bother to look any further than the information they're provided by these groups.
I hope you will take the time to investigate Narconon a little more. People should be made aware that their loved ones can be put at risk by some of the practices employed by Narconon, based on college dropout L. Ron Hubbard's junk science. If the toxic doses of niacin they administer doesn't destroy their livers, they might well come out of the program as an indoctrinated Scientologist, as the courses given to Narconon clients are the same ones offered to the public by Scientology facilities.
